A rumor reported earlier this morning that RIM was hoping to be purchased by Samsung. However, a spokesman for the company said that they are not interested in buying the maker of BlackBerry smartphones. When the rumor was announced this morning, RIM stocks rose 10 percent.
James Chung said earlier this afternoon that Samsung has never considered acquiring RIM and currently does not have any desire to buy the company.
This contradicts Boy Genius Report, which mentioned an unidentified source that claimed that RIM co-chief executive Jim Balsillie was meeting with companies interested in licensing its software or buying a part or all of RIM, with Samsung leading all talks.
People were quick to believe this rumor because RIM has been struggling in recent months. Its sales have dropped considerably since the beginning of last year, and the company has run into delays in developing the next version of its operating system, BlackBerry 10.
