AT&T has just announced the release date and price for the Samsung Galaxy Note, a device that has drawn the attention of those who want a cross-over smartphone/tablet. It's going to be released in just under three weeks, but the price won't be cheap.
This tabletphone launched several months ago, but no U.S. carrier has picked it up. Early this month, however, AT&T said it was going to change that, but was vague about when.
This morning, the carrier announced that it will introduce the Galaxy Note on Sunday, February 19. Those who can't wait can put in a pre-order now at an AT&T store or this company's website on Feb. 5.
The price is going to be a touch steep: $300 with a two year contract. This is above what AT&T charges for any other smartphone, but is in-line with its tablet pricing.
Samsung Galaxy Note Preview
This tabletphone sports 5.3-inch, 1280 x 800 touchscreen. It is the first device with a Super AMOLED display this large.
The Galaxy Note runs Google's Android OS on a dual-core 1.5GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. Even though it will debut running Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread), an upgrade to OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is in development. AT&T's version will have 16GB of internal storage and a microSD memory card slot for adding more.
Unlike the current one, the U.S. version will support AT&T's nascent 4G LTE network. It will also have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
This Samsung device sports a rear-facing 8MP camera that can record 1080p video, as well as a 2MP front-facing camera. The stylus (and stylus slot) have already been mentioned, but not the 2500 mAH battery.
AT&T is going to offer the tabletphone in carbon blue (shown above) and ceramic white.
