No Samsung Galaxy S III at MWC 2012

Samsung Galaxy S III Rumored to Launch in May

Samsung announced today that they will not be unveiling the highly anticipated Galaxy S III at MWC this month. The device which was expected to be announced at the event will instead receive a separate event later in the year.

The company said in a statement:

"Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product."

This announcement comes at a time where consumers were expecting Samsung and other companies to unveil some of their biggest products for the year. Around this time last year, Samsung announced one of their most successful products to date, the Samsung Galaxy S II. Experts speculate that the delay in unveiling the successor is to reduce waiting time for customer.

Galaxy S III Preview
The specs for the Galaxy S III were leaked late last year, and included a number of high-end features, such as a quad-core processor, the first of its kind in a smartphone. It will also have an unusually large display: a 4.6-inch, 1280 x 720, Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen.

The device is expected to run Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Other cutting-edge specifications for the phone supposedly include 2GB of RAM and a 12MP rear-facing camera.
