Samsung Takes the Wraps Off Galaxy Beam Projector Smartphone

Samsung continues to roll out innovative products at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The company today announced the Galaxy Beam smartphone that contains a projector that allows users to display and share multimedia anywhere on a large luminous projector screen.

The Galaxy Beam enables users to share photos, videos, or any other form of digital media by beaming content store on the device to walls, ceilings, or any improvised flat surfaces. The handset uses its bright 15 lumens projector to display stored media.

The 4.0-inch device will launch with Android OS 2.3, and will come with a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor. Customers can take photos on a 5MP rear-facing camera or a 1.3MP front-facing one. The phone will have 6 GB of RAM with 8 GB of internal memory. A microSD card can be inserted into the phone that gives the device up to 32GB of total storage space.

Additional features on the Galaxy Beam include Bluetooth 3.0+ capability, a microUSB and USB 2.0 hub, and a 2000mAh battery.

Samsung has yet to reveal the release date and pricing of the device.
