Google Wallet Headed for 10 Additional Sprint Smartphones

With the upcoming LG Viper receiving Google Wallet in the near future, Sprint is expected to introduce at least 10 additional phones with support for the application later this year.

This carrier has been the only one in the U.S. to strongly support the application, so it’s no surprise that they will be looking to ship the app to more devices. Google Wallet debuted last year on Sprint's Samsung Nexus S. Its upcoming version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will have the eCommerce app as well.

On the other hand, Verizon Wireless shipped out its version of the Galaxy Nexus without pre-loading Google Wallet. Verizon is working in collaboration with AT&T and T-Mobile on Isis, which a rival NFC-based app that promises services enabling consumers to conduct point-of-sale transactions, redeem coupons and use store merchant loyalty cards via mobile device.

Google Wallet enables consumers to make purchases by tapping their Android smartphone at over 300,000 MasterCard PayPass-enabled merchant locations. Google Wallet also includes support for SingleTap, which allows users to earn reward points and/or redeem coupons.

Earlier this year, Google Wallet was faced with a security breach that allowed a lost or stolen smartphone running the app to be used to transfer money without the original owner's permission. Google has since then released a fix to resolve the issue, which you can read more about here.
