Samsung Nexus S Could Finally Be Getting Android 4.0

Although Google announced Android OS 4.0 last fall, months later only a few smartphones have been upgraded. The wait is reportedly almost over for users of the Samsung Nexus S.

The Nexus series was created to give developers and power users first access to system software upgrades. That's why it's so surprising that last year's Nexus S has not yet been upgraded.

An update to Android OS 4.0 for this model was briefly available early this year, but it was quickly pulled after significant bugs were found in it. Since then, users of this device have been left waiting.

However, Engadget is reporting being told by a trusted source that a new, presumably bug-free, version will be introduced "in the next few weeks". Versions will be available for both the original Samsung Nexus S from T-Mobile and Sprint's Nexus S 4G.

With this version (code-named Ice Cream Sandwich) was created to re-unite Google's smartphone and tablet operating systems, which split apart over a year ago. As such, it has elements from Android OS 2.x and OS 3.x.

In addition to an updated look, ICS has a faster web browser and  an updated address book, which has been renamed "People" and had additional social networking features added to it.
