Palm OS 5 & 6 to be renamed, simultaneously maintained
PalmSource plans to change the names of Palm OS versions 5 and 6 to reflect the fact that both will continue to be updated for the forseeable future. As we reported last year, PalmSource plans to create a 'smartphone' version of OS 5, to exploit its lower system requirements for building low-end phones. While OS 6 went by the codename 'Sahara' during development, it is unlikely that it will retain that name. No word yet on what the new names will be. For those who don't know, 'forking' is a term that refers to a single software line branching into multiple independant projects.

PocketPC Playstation emulator
No relation to Sony's upcoming Playstation Pocket, but PocketPC users can now run a number of Playstation games thanks to FpseCE, a 'donationware' emulator written by Ludovic Olivencia and 'LDchen'. The project's site also has an extensive list of compatible games, and utilities to take a game CD and strip it down for use. The program is free to download, the authors ask that if you like the program, you offer a donation to continue its development.
