Customer retention is no easy feat for wireless carriers, but AT&T appears to be taking it quite seriously, as it is testing a new loyalty program known as AT&T Plus.
Currently only a pilot program, AT&T Plus offers its members a “preferential” customer support number, discounts on select (read: non-Apple) accessories, and waived fees for upgrades or activations. The Verge initially reported on the program, which just began rolling out in Colorado, Minnesota, and Texas, though the qualifying criteria to become a member is still unknown.
One member who already received an AT&T Plus membership card as part of the pilot program also claimed on a MacRumors forum that the carrier would “provide access to special events and exclusive product announcements.” While AT&T has confirmed the existence of the program, it is neglecting to offer any further details beyond the fact that it’s in its pilot stages and that it’s being used to gauge user feedback and interest in the program.
“Right now, this is only a trial, but based on what our customers tell us, it may be something we look to roll out more widely in the future,” an AT&T spokesperson said in a statement to CNET. “It’s an example of our ongoing efforts to deliver a great experience for our customers.”
