UPDATED: Though there were initially some translation issues with its press release, Samsung has announced that it has sold 5 million units of its smartphone/tablet hybrid device, the Galaxy Note.
The Galaxy Note, dubbed a phablet by some, has quietly been selling in a market that is seemingly flooded by Apple products such as the new iPad and the iPhone 4S. An announcement from Samsung earlier this month on March 2 revealed the actual number of Notes sold, a vastly different amount than the number of shipped units, which was the statistic the company revealed today. that it had sold 2 million units globally.
Samsung still has high hopes for the device, as it has shipped 1 million Galaxy Notes a month since its release five months ago and expects to sell another 10 million phablets by the end of 2012. And while the numbers haven’t yet matched those of the Samsung Galaxy S II or the iPhone 4S, Samsung is touting the Galaxy Note as a successful product that is paving the way for a new market in the technology world today.
