Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace now contains more than 80,000 apps, with new ones being added at a rate of 340 apps a day.
All About Windows Phone has reported that as of April 1, there were 82,234 apps published by about 20,000 different developers. The Windows Phone blog also reported that it took about five months for the number of WP7 developers to double.
Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace hit 50K apps on December 27, 60K apps on January 22, and 70K apps on February 23. The 80K apps make the Windows Phone Marketplace the third biggest app store, behind Apple and Android but ahead of Blackberry and Symbian.
At this current rate of growth, it’s expected that the Windows Phone Marketplace will hit 100,000 apps by May.
