With both the Nokia Lumia 710 and 900 selling well, mobile carriers in the U.S. are confident to say that the handsets are a success. However, this isn’t the same story for those in Europe.
Despite only being available to the general public for less than a month, the Lumia 900 has been moving quickly for AT&T. The carrier’s president of retail sales and service, Paul Roth, stated that sales have exceeded expectations. Roth also said that the Windows-handset has actually been sold out on some occasions.
T-Mobile can also confirm that the Nokia smartphone has been successful with its customers. While no specific figures have been mentioned, the carrier said that the smartphone "has consistently been among the most popular phones in the T-Mobile lineup."
Europe a Different Story
However, the success hasn’t made its way over to the other side of the Atlantic just yet. A handful of carriers in Europe are complaining that Nokia phones are too pricey for them, and that they expected more to be included in the phone itself. One carrier said that if Nokia lowered its price on the phones, then they could possibly sell more.
That being said, Nokia is looking to continue to make an impact on the market. Stephen Elop, President and CEO of Nokia, said "Within our Smart Devices business unit, we have established early momentum with Lumia, and we are increasing our investments in Lumia to achieve market success." The company reported that it sold two million phones running Microsoft's mobile OS in the first three months of this year.
