A recent study on mobile travel activities shows that 51% of smartphone owners accessed travel content on their devices during a three month period ending February 2012, with nearly 1 in every 5 smartphone owners using their devices to book air or hotel reservations.
The study, performed by comScore, showed that the most popular air travel-related mobile activity was checking airfare prices, in which 26% of all smartphone users engaged. Smartphone users were just as likely to look up a phone number of an airline, look up flight schedules, or check a flight status, each of were conducted by 25% of the audience.
In terms of hotel-related mobile activities, looking up hotel address/directions was the most popular (29%) followed by researching attractions near the hotel (23%).
Overall, the study concluded that 62% of smartphone owners that accessed travel information were male compared to 52% of the entire smartphone audience. Additionally, 78% of smartphone travelers were between the ages of 18-44.
