Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 Can Now Be Pre-Ordered

Last month, Samsung unveiled a pair of Android-based handheld computers focused on gaming and entertainment. The larger one of these, with a 4.2-inch display, is now available for pre-order.

The Galaxy Player series was created for those who want all the features of a smartphone, but not the phone. These devices connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi, so no monthly phone service bill is required.

The 4.2-inch touchscreen on the next model in the series has a WVGA (800 x 480) resolution. This makes it larger than the Galaxy Player 3.6 that debuted last month, but smaller than the Galaxy Player 5.0 that came out in 2011.

This handheld computer runs Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread), has 8GB of internal storage, and a microSD memory card slot. It includes dual cameras: a 2MP rear-facing one and a VGA front-facing one. The device also has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, an FM radio, support for USB 2.0 host, and a pair of stereo speakers.

The Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 can be pre-ordered starting today, and it is going to debut on May 13. It will sell for $200.

The smaller version that came out last month cost $150. Its 3.6-inch display has an HVGA (480 x 320) resolution, and this device has only a single speaker. Aside from these differences, the two are almost identical.
