The official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S III was yesterday, along with a promise that this cutting-edge smartphone will debut in America this summer. There's evidence to believe that every major carrier in the U.S. will be offering it.
Samsung says that 300 carriers around the world will eventually be offering its newly-announced flagship smartphone. At this point, no carrier in this country has publicly committed to the device, but that's apparently a temporary situation.
The Korean phone maker has created a web page where U.S. residents can sign up to be notified when the handset is available. This allows people to specify which carrier they use, and AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon are all listed, as well as U.S. Cellular and other smaller ones. While this can't be called proof that the Galaxy S III is headed for these carriers, it is a strong suggestion.
Note: Samsung has modified its web page to remove the list of carriers. Still, a picture of the previous version has been preserved.
Indirect Evidence
It could be argued that direct evidence is superfluous. The Galaxy S II was the best selling Android smartphone of the past year by a good margin -- it would be surprising if carriers did not pick up its successor, about which there has been a tremendous amount of hype.
Only Verizon out of the four top U.S. carriers did not offer a version of the Galaxy S II. It went with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus instead, which has not proved to be as popular. According to a roadmap of upcoming products, Big Red isn't going to miss out on Samsung's new flagship.
More About the Samsung Galaxy S III
This upcoming smartphone will feature a 4.8-inch, 1280 x 720 (720p), Super AMOLED touchscreen. It is going to run Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Some of the specifications of the Galaxy S III will depend on where it's being purchased. The U.S. version will have 4G LTE and a dual core processor, while the European one will be built around a quad-core Exynos processor but no LTE. Different versions will have varying amounts of internal storage capacity: 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB.
Rounding out the list of features will be a 2100mAh swappable battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, an 8-megapixel main camera and a 1.9MP camera on its front.
We have a hands-on preview of the Samsung Galaxy S III with our first impressions.
