AT&T has definite plans to also offer a shared family data plan, similar to something Verizon Wireless is working on, according to the company's mobile CEO.
Ralph de la Vega, CEO of AT&T's mobile business, told CNET yesterday that a shared family data plan will be offered that would allow consumers to buy one bucket of data, which can be used by multiple devices. Analysts say that this move could help spur the sale of smartphones and tablets.
Just a few months ago, de la Vega was unsure about the implementation of a shared family data plan, citing that AT&T experienced complications over IT and billing issues. However, after speaking with the media yesterday, de la Vega seemed confident that the company will get everything right.
"I'm very comfortable with the plan that will be offered to our customers," de la Vega said.
The CEO of Verizon Wireless confirmed a few weeks ago that his company will indeed offer a shared data plan for its customers. And just like AT&T's supposed plan, any devices under this single plan will be able to use data from one common pool.
