According to a recently released mobile behavior measurement service, Mobile Metrix 2.0 by comScore, smartphone users spend a great deal of time on social media apps such as Facebook.
Mobile Metrix 2.0 brings comScore’s Unified Digital Measurement to smartphone devices, providing data that includes a comprehensive report of audience sizes across apps and browser usage.
The highest ranked property, with about 94 million unique visitors, was Google Sites. Facebook ranked second with 78 million unique visitors, and Yahoo Sites had about 66 million unique visitors, placing third.
Facebook was the only app in the top 5 ranking beating its closest app competitor, Zynga, by about 50 million unique visitors. Twitter and Rovio, the creators of Angry Birds, followed Zynga with about 25 million unique visitors each.
iOS users and Android users varied in terms of highest reached apps. About 99% of the iPhone total audience used Apple iTunes, about 91% used Google Maps, and about 80% used Facebook. In terms of Android users, about 93% used the Android Market, about 84% used Google Search, and about 69% used Facebook, placing fifth on the list compared to third on the iOS rankings.
The service also showed the average amount of time spent per months on apps, more specifically social media apps. Facebook, again, blew away other apps with an average time spent of about 441 minutes in March 2012. Those using Twitter spent about two hours on the app, while Pinterest had an average time spent for users of about 53 minutes in March.
