Next iPhone Will Sport a 4-Inch Touchscreen

Apple is expected to launch its next-generation iPhone with a larger screen, according to sources familiar with the situation.

The company is said to have ordered screens from an Asian supplier that are allegedly bigger than the one found on the current iPhone, which is a 3.5-inch screen. Production of the 4-inch screens is set to begin next month, while the Wall Street Journal predicts that the new iPhone will come out in the fall.

It’s heavily discussed that the reason for Apple to add the 4-inch screen to their handset is to make it more appealing to customers than the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III, which will sport a massive 4.8-inch screen.

A new iPhone with a larger screen wouldn’t necessarily mean that Apple is trying to match what other companies are doing in the market today, said Nobuo Kurahashi, a Mizuho Investors Securities analyst.

"The smartphone market has become diverse, but the iPhone still sets the agenda," he said. "If Apple ever released a lower-priced iPhone, that would be more of a sign that the changing market environment is beginning to affect the company."
