A report says that Samsung has received an nearly 10 million pre-orders for its upcoming Galaxy S III smartphone.
According to the Korea Economic Daily, Samsung has received about 9 million pre-orders from more than 100 carriers worldwide. The company has yet to make an official announcement about this, however.
The smartphone is going to be released in Germany on May 29, with other neighboring countries to follow shortly thereafter. It will debut during the summer for the U.S..
Samsung is expecting that its third-generation Galaxy S handset will help it stay on top in its competition with Apple -- Samsung is currently the world's largest smartphone maker in terms of units shipped, and Apple is second.
Samsung Galaxy III Overview
This upcoming smartphone will feature a 4.8-inch, 1280 x 720 (720p), Super AMOLED touchscreen. It is also going to run Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Some of the specifications of the handset will depend on where it's being purchased. The U.S. version will have 4G LTE and a dual core processor, while the European one will be built around a quad-core Exynos processor without LTE. Different versions will have varying amounts of internal storage capacity: 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB.
Rounding out the list of features will be a 2100mAh swappable battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, an 8 megapixel main camera and a 1.9MP camera on its front.
