Samsung Galaxy Note Officially Headed for T-Mobile

T-Mobile appears to have become tired of all the rumors and has made it official: the Samsung Galaxy Note will soon be part of its product lineup. This super-size smartphone has a 5.3-inch display, Android 4.0, and 4G.

TheWhen it was first announced by Samsung, the Galaxy Note was criticized by some reviewers as being too big. Despite this, it has sold quite well, and is on the way to reaching the 10 million mark. According to a survey of its smartphone users done by T-Mobile, 77% of respondents prefer a device with a 4.5-inch or larger display.

This tabletphone debuted last year with Android 2.3, but T-Mobile is waiting until it can run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to introduce it.

T-Mobile's version will be able to access the carrier's 42Mbps 4G HSPA+ network. It will also have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

Unlike virtually all smartphones and tablets, the Galaxy Note comes with a stylus, called the S Pen. It is also bundled with a suite of software developed by Samsung to take advantage of this feature, like drawing and note-taking apps.

More Hardware Details

On the inside is a dual-core 1.5GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. Exactly how much internal storage capacity the T-Mobile version of this model will have is not yet known, but microSD memory card slot for additonal capacity.

Other features include a rear-facing 8MP camera, 2500 mAh battery, and more.

Coming Soon

Despite today's announcement, T-Mobile has not revealed its exact release date or price for the Samsung Galaxy Note. All it has said is that this tabletphone will will be available "in the coming weeks". An unconfirmed report, however, pegs the date at August 8.

The carrier needs to move things along -- reports of a second-generation model with an even larger touchscreen have already begun to circulate.
