HTC EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G owners losing hope that their phones will someday get a taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich can rest easy, as Sprint has just announced that both devices will receive the update by early August.
The over-the-air update won't be the only upgrade the smartphones receive, as Sprint also announced that both handsets will be updated to HTC Sense 3.6, which comes right on the heels of the release of HTC Sense 4.0. The carrier promised to release specific dates for each upgrade in the near future.
A notification will appear when the device is eligible for the update, which will prompt the user to install the upgrade once the download is complete. The update handset will be disabled during the installation process, which should only take a few minutes.
Sprint HTC EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G customers have been waiting since November to get their upgrade to this version of the Android operating system, when the carrier initially announced its flagship devices would be the first to receive the update.
What's In Android 4.0
So what does Ice Cream Sandwich bring to the mix? Features such as Face Unlock, which allows users to unlock their phones with a smile, and a web browser that lets users sync Google Chrome bookmarks, request full desktop versions of sites and see your open tabs in a new layout, are new additions to the operating system. Improvements were also made to the user interface, as well as the camera app, which now offers effects such as Panorama and Vignette.
