Next-Gen iPod Touch Likely to Have a Larger Display, Too

Apple's iPod touch is essentially an iPhone without the phone, and as such the two devices are generally quite similar. That's why it's not surprising that the next iPod touch will reportedly be getting a larger display, just like the next iPhone.

Persistent reports indicate that, after staying at 3.5 inches for 5 years, Apple's upcoming smartphone will sport a 4.0-inch one. The resolution is allegedly going to change as well, from 640 x 960 up to 640 x 1136. The additional 176 pixels added to one end will bring it close to a 16:9 screen ratio.

According to Macotakara, the next iPod touch will have the same screen, which will make it a better option for playing games, reading ebooks, accessing web sites, and more.

The Japanese site says this model will also have an Apple A5 processor, moving up from the A4 chip that's in the current version. Other features of this device remain unknown, such as whether it will include support for the Siri voice-control system.

Apple's next handheld is likely to be announced at the same time, or shortly after, the debut of the iPhone 5, which is widely expected to happen in mid-fall.
