The 8779 update for Nokia Lumia models has apparently begun to roll out, as some users have already received it.
What exactly the 8779 update means for your phone depends on what model you have. According to Nokia Connects, for the Lumia 900, the update enhances the proximity sensor's sensitivity and improves the display's colors in low-light conditions. Meanwhile, the Lumia 710 benefits from the addition of Wi-Fi Hotspot capabilities, as well as the flip to silence feature, which silences incoming calls when users turn their phone face down. Finally, the Lumia 610 also receives improvements to its proximity sense, while also seeing an improved sound level for the alarm tone during voice calls.
As is usually the case with updates being issued to Windows Phone devices, 8779 is not OTA (over the air), so users are going to need to plug their phone into their computer to check for the update's availability and to download it.
