New information on the as-yet unannounced Apple iPhone 5 has come to light, revealing a few details on this smartphone, which is expected to debut in a month or so.
Rumors of a smaller Dock Connector have been around for some time. The latest of these says that it will have just 9 pins (down from 30 in the current one). It's possible this might work like the power cable on Apple's laptops, which can go in either direction and is held in with magnets.
The President of Sharp says his company is going to start supplying screens to Apple to be used in the next-generation smartphone. Takashi Okuda said shipments will begin in August, but didn't give any additional details. Unconfirmed reports have indicated that the iPhone 5 will have a 4-inch display, up from the 3.5-inch one in the current model.
While this device is most often referred to as the "iPhone 5", it's quite possible it will simply be named "the new iPhone", just as Apple's third-generation tablet is called "the new iPad". If the company goes this route, there is the potential for confusion -- in a couple of years, Apple will have multiple models called the iPhone, which might cause difficulties for people shopping for accessories.
