The two arch rivals, Samsung and Apple, continue to battle it out both in the courtroom and in the marketplace. It appears that tensions are still on the rise as each company braces for the expected all-out-war that is to surround the release of key mobile devices: the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Apple's iPhone 5.
"We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin on August 29," a Samsung spokesman said without elaborating. The event will take place two days before the opening of Europe's biggest consumer electronics trade fair IFA, and perhaps more importantly the event will take place roughly two weeks before the possible debut of Apple's iPhone 5.
South Korean media reports speculate that the new Galaxy Note may feature a slightly larger, unbreakable, 5.5-inch display, along with a faster processor and much better camera than the current version.
Samsung once struggled in the smartphone department, but then overtook Apple last year to become the world's largest smartphone maker. The South Korean firm is looking to defend its supremacy by refreshing its line-up ahead of the launch of the fifth version of Apple's iPhone, which is widely expected to be released this October.
