Nokia may be making moves towards the next generation of Windows Phones as soon as next month, according to an inside source.
The source, who wishes to remain unidentified as the plan has not been made public yet, claims that Nokia plans on announcing its lineup of Windows Phone 8 handsets next month at its Nokia World event. Nokia World takes place September 5 and 6 in Helsinki, Finland, putting the unveilings ahead of the announcement of the new iPhone from Apple, which is expected to take place on September 12.
Perhaps more importantly, the source also alleges that the WP8 handsets that are to be revealed early next month will go on sale before the holiday shopping season. The timing of the ability could only serve to help Nokia, as it has struggled to move its Windows Phone 7 handsets, selling only 600,000 units in North America last quarter.
Nokia officials have declined to comment on the timing of its announcement and release dates of its Windows Phone 8 devices.
