Samsung has committed to offering an upgrade to Android 4.1 (AKA Jelly Bean) for its popular Samsung Galaxy S III at some point next month.
This promise was sent to CNET UK, in a statements that said,"the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system will be available on the Galaxy S3 from October." No other details were given, such as a specific release date.
The wait for most users in the U.S. will be longer. This is because carriers in this country typically spend additional time testing upgrades before releasing them. In addition, the U.S. handset has a different processor from the version that's sold in th U.K.
What's New
Brighthand provided an overview of Android 4.1 when it was announced this summer, and some of the highlights include Google Now, which tries to be a pro-active digital assistant, informing users of the information they want before they know they need it. This includes traffic and weather information, and much more.
The Notification system has been redesigned to be more interactive, and Google's developers made the user interface faster.
