Recent research presented by Futuresource Consulting and MHL Consortium reveals that digital content consumption is growing in all forms, with nearly a third (30%) of U.K. smartphone owners streaming video to their mobile devices.
David Sidebottom, senior market analyst, content, Futuresource Consulting, said:
"The explosion of device uptake, both now and in the future, will be a key driver in the growth of digital content consumption, providing consumers with a whole choice of access points. This, combined with increased content availability and who and how the consumer shares these experiences, will define the content everywhere movement."
The study also revealed that of the $8 billion consumer applications bought last year, 50% of them were games. The U.K. is becoming one of the major markets of this consumption, with over 35 million smartphones in use by the end of 2011. In addition, the study predicts that by the end of 2016 there will be 20 million tablets in use in the U.K.
