Google has sent out invitations to the press for an event to be held the last Monday of this month. It's not clear at this point what's on the docket, but it could be new Nexus smartphones and tablets.
The wording of the invitation suggests this is possible. It says "The playground is open. Join us for an Android event."
Possibilities
In recent weeks there have been rumors that a number of products in the Nexus line are in development. These are smartphones and tablets that are developed in cooperation with Google and run the latest version of Android operating system.
One of these is the LG Nexus 4, a smartphone that has been the subject of of a number of leaks. It's possible this will be joined by handsets from other device makers.
In addition, Google and Asus are supposedly working on a Nexus tablet that will be half the cost of its predecessor, while Samsung is reportedly developing a Nexus with a 10-inch display.
The most recent version of Google's OS is Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). The next version with be Android 4.2 (Key Lime Pie), and there have been hints that this will be released soon. If so, then then any Nexus devices would have to run it.
The Nexus models are the ones Google recommends to anyone who wants early access to the latest versions of Android.
