In the five months since its release, the Samsung Galaxy S III has enjoyed remarkable success. The smartphone has now passed the 30 million mark.
For comparison, last year's Galaxy S II was considered successful for selling 10 million units in the same period.
"Meeting this sales milestone in five months sets another record for Samsung, and we are extremely proud and yet motivated to continue to provide our customers with products that they love," said JT Shin, the head of Samsung's mobile division.
A Resounding Success
Strong sales of the Galaxy S III have helped push Samsung to the top of the market. In the third quarter of this year, it was responsible for 31% of global smartphone sales, more than twice the share of its chief rival, Apple.
One of the factors driving sales of Samsung's flagship device is its broad availability. In the U.S., it is offered by all of the Big Four carriers, as well as U.S. Cellular.
A more recent model from this company, the Galaxy Note II, has just passed the 3 million sales mark in about a month.
