Samsung Against Patent Talks with Apple

Over the weekend HTC and Apple announced that they reached a global settlement agreeing to dismiss all pending patent litigation between the two companies. After the two companies were able to reach an amicable solution out of court, many speculated that this could lead to a similar resolution for Samsung's ongoing patent dispute with Apple.

However, Samsung does not seem interested, as a top executive at the tech company said today that it does not intend to hold talks with Apple. Instead Samsung seems content to continue to rely on legal means rather than settle its ongoing patent issues with Apple out of court.

Speaking to Yonhap News, the head of Samsung's mobile and IT division, Shin Jong-kyun, said:

"It may be true that HTC may have agreed to pay 300 billion won ($276.6m) to Apple, but we don't intend to at all."

While the terms of the settlement between HTC and Apple are still undisclosed; analysts at Sterne Agee estimate that the license agreement will cost HTC about $6-8 per phone, which will equate to about $180-280 million a year.
