AT&T Reverses Course: More Data Plans Can Use Apple's FaceTime

There's good news for AT&T subscribers: the telecom will no longer require its customers to have its new Mobile Share plan to use Apple's FaceTime video chatting.

Previously, AT&T had blocked those who have an older unlimited or tiered data plan from using FaceTime over a cellular-wireless connection, but the carrier has announced that this policy will soon change.

There will still be some restrictions, though. AT&T says it "will support FaceTime, not only on our Mobile Share plans, but also on all of our tiered data plans with an LTE device." This means that those who are still hold into an unlimited data plan will not be able to access this video service, nor will those who do not have an iPhone 5.

This change will go into effect "over the next 8-10 weeks".

FaceTime debuted years ago, but it was restricted to Wi-Fi connections until the release of iOS 6 this fall.

Verizon and Sprint, two other U.S. carriers that offer the Apple iPhone, place no restrictions on FaceTime use.
