Next-Gen iPhone Might Debut Earlier Than Expected

Those who are looking forward to Apple's next smartphone might not have to wait as long as expected. The sixth-generation iPhone might be out months earlier than conventional wisdom would predict.

DigiTimes is reporting that handset parts suppliers in Asia are expecting to begin supplying parts to Apple for a new smartphone in March or April. This device will supposedly be introduced in mid-2013. At this point, no details about the hardware of the iPhone 6 have leaked out.

A New Strategy? Or an Old One?

The very first iPhone was introduced in the summer of 2007, and for years after that each new model came out in the summer. That strategy changed last year, when the iPhone 4S didn't come out until fall, and its successor also debut in the autumn.

If the sixth-generation iPhone debuts in mid 2013, it could mean Apple is returning to its old launch schedule.

On the other hand, Apple recently introduced the iPad 4 about half a year after the iPad 3 came out. This could be a sign that the company is going to start refreshing its mobile products twice a year, not just once.
