Apollo Plus Update In The Works For Windows Phone 8

Windows Phone 8 may still be a young operating system, but Microsoft already has an update in the works for it named Apollo Plus.

Set to be fully detailed at next year's Mobile World Congress in February, Apollo Plus is not meant as the next major version of Microsoft's mobile OS. Rather, it's a means to update Windows Phone 8 with fixes and a few features that weren't ready in time for its initial release.

Some of these features are rumored to include VPN support, allowing users to connect to work systems, as well as a Wi-Fi connection fix that would allow connections to always remain on. Improvements to audio are likely to work their way into the update as well. Microsoft has gone on record in the past saying that it "ran out of time" on a Notification Center for Windows Phone 8, so chances are good that may make it into the Apollo Plus update.

Apollo Plus marks the first attempt by Microsoft to test out the over-the-air update capabilities of Windows Phone, as the last version of the operating system only allowed users to update their phones but plugging them into their desktops and using the appropriate software.
