AT&T Gives Motorola Atrix HD Users a Taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

AT&T's Motorola Atrix HD is getting a tasty treat just in time for the holidays, as the carrier has announced that an update for Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) is now available for the smartphone, bringing users several improvements, including Google Now, a Siri-like feature for Android devices.

Motorola revealed which of its handsets would be getting the upgrade back in October, promising a trade-in program for owners of phones not eligible for the improved operating system. While the trade-in program proved to be less helpful once the details were fully divulged, Motorola is staying true to its promise of updating certain smartphones with Google's latest iteration of its popular platform.

The first of Moto's phone to get a taste of the new interface was the Droid RAZR M, followed by the Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR MAXX HD. Now the Atrix HD is rounding out the group and will likely be the last of the manufacturer's phones to see an upgrade in 2012.

What's in Android 4.1

In addition to the voice recognition assistant, Android 4.1 offers some other new goodies for users, such as Project Butter, which is intended to make the interface as smooth as possible. Notifications are also much different, with users being able to respond to social-networking posts, emails, and more all from the notification window. Additional features include enhanced widget support, Swype-like features, and voice-to-text.

Atrix HD owners can manually install the over-the-air Android update by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates.
