The release of Apple's next smartphone isn't expected for months, so details are a bit cloudy. But a new report indicates this device might have a larger screen than the current one. Sources in the Asian components business told DigiTimes that Apple is prepping a handset with a bigger display. Some of them said they have seen the device for themselves, and indicated that it has a completely new design.
After years of making models with 3.5-inch screens, the iPhone 5 was the first with a 4-inch one. If this unconfirmed report turns out to be correct, then Apple is going even bigger. It has been speculated that this is in response to Android-based smartphones, many of which have displays approaching 5 inches.
A Cheaper Version?
The sources for this report also claimed that the device they saw was going to be a less expensive version of the iPhone. There has been rumors and speculation for years that Apple is going to release a discount version of its handset, but these typically say that version will have a smaller display than the higher-end one. This report seems to say that Apple is going to increase the size of all its smartphones.
