Apple Releases iOS 6.1, Available to Download Now

An updated version of Apple's mobile operating system has just been released. This contains a number of tweaks, but can't really be considered a major upgrade.

Versions of the iPhone and iPad with LTE will now work with the 4G networks offered by more telecoms around the world -- smartphone users get access to 36 additional carriers, while iPad users get 23. In the U.S., the GSM version can connect to AT&T, Alaska Communications, and Alaska GCI, while the CDMA version supports not just Sprint and Verizon but also Bluegrass Cellular, C Spire, Cellcom, and Pioneer Cellular.

In addition, Siri users in the U.S. can now purchases movie tickets through Fandango, and iTunes Match users can get songs through iCloud.

This new version is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad (third and fourth generation), iPad mini, iPad 2 and iPod touch (fourth and fifth generation). Some features may not be available on all products.

iOS 6.1 is available as a free software update. Users can install it by hooding their phone, tabet, or handheld to a compuer running iTunes, or it can be downloaded and installed OTA (over-the-air) directly on the device through Settiings > General > Software Update.
