BlackBerry Q10 Release Still 3-4 Months Away

As part of launching its new operating system, BlackBerry has put most of its efforts into the touch-only BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. The version with a keyboard, on the other hand, won't be out until months afterward.

BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins told the Associated Press that the BlackBerry Q10 is going to be on the market 8-10 weeks after the release of the Z10. The Z10 is 3-7 weeks away from release in the U.S., so simple math shows that the Q10 isn't going to be out until late spring or early summer.

Heins laid much of the blame for the long wait on U.S. wireless carriers, who heavily test handsets before they allow them on their networks. The Q10 is expected to be released in other parts of the world in April.

BlackBerry made its reputation with handsets that have physical keyboards, and the Q10 is going to continue that tradition. It will sport a 3.1-inch touchscreen fixed above a small set of keys designed to be used with the thumbs.
