There's good news for users of new BlackBerry smartphones: you'll soon be able to use the free Skype video chat service. However, there is a small caveat.
A statement from this software developer spells it out:
If you have a new BlackBerry smartphone powered by the BlackBerry 10 platform, you will soon be able to download and run Skype on these devices. We are working closely with BlackBerry to ensure the Skype for Android app runs great in the BlackBerry 10 environment.
It's the part about this being the Android version that has raised a few eyebrows. BlackBerry 10 includes the ability to run some software written for Android, but the operating system is emulating an older version of Android, and this makes some uses a bit nervous. Time will tell whether Skype's promise of great performace eases some users' concerns.
