LG Optimus G Pro Will Sport a 5.5-Inch Display

LG has just started to let the world in on some of the details on the Optimus G Pro, although a full set of specs probably won't be revealed until later this month. Still, the company did show off some pictures and announced that this Android smartphone will have a large, high-res screen.

The centerpiece of this model will be its 5.5-inch display, with is going to have a 1920 x 1080 (1080P). This will give it a pixel density of just over 400 ppi, making each pixel far to small to be seen by the human eye when held at a normal distance.

This display is going to be slightly curved, which its maker claims will give it a "2.5D" effect -- whatever that means.

LG says the Optimus G Pro is going to have a quad-core processor. but did not say which one. It also kept mum about the other specs. However, the Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo announced its version in January, and the global version is not likely to be very different.

If this assumption is correct, then it will run Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) on a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. Other features will include 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot, 13-megapixel rear camera, 2.4-megapixel front camera, and 4G LTE.

The Optimus G Pro will almost certainly get a full, formal unveiling at MWC in Barcelona in a few weeks. It's going to debut in S. Korea before the end of the month.

It will be a follow-up to the LG Optimus G, which debuted in the U.S. this fall. These two are sufficiantly different that the Optimus G Pro is not likely to replace the earlier model.
