MAUZ Will Transform an iPhone into a Wireless Mouse

Ever wanted to control a computer, smart TV or media center via a smartphone? Well that's what Spicebox is doing with MAUZ, an iPhone adapter that will transform the phone into a wireless mouse or remote control thanks to a custom-designed app.

Essentially, MAUZ will be a little black box that plugs into the 30-pin adapter on an iPhone 4/4S or the Lightning port on the iPhone 5 to convert the handset into a pointing device that controls computers using gestures and visual cues.

The accessory is going to connect through a Wi-Fi connection, and send information about movement bidirectionally. Once the adapter is plugged into the iPhone, the MAUZ app will immediately pop-up, prompting the control functions.

The app will feature a mouse with left and right buttons and a scroll wheel, as well as shortkeys for frequently used software. Users can also tilt the phone to switch to a TouchPad interface.

The accessory will employ Human Interface Device technology, working similarly to a Wii controller in that users will be able to move the phone to rotate their work. Pre-programmed to interact with different computer applications, MAUZ is going to let users change to the next song in a playlist with a swish of their hand or create gestures to align objects in PowerPoint, among other functions. 

Spicebox is currently raising funds for MAUZ on Kickstarter, with a pledge goal of $150,000. Those interested can still donate, with $45 or more guaranteeing them a MAUZ for the iPhone 4/4S or the iPhone 5. While the company is far from its goal point, Spicebox promises to get the product to stores regardless of the March 8 deadline on Kickstarter. MAUZ is expected to sell for $60 to $70.
