LG Optimus G Pro Will Debut in the U.S. Next Quarter

LG's new flagship smartphone is going to launch first in S. Korea, but the Optimus G Pro will bring its 5.5-inch display to the rest of the world in the April - June quarter.

It is one of a new class of devices that are sometimes called "phablets", as they are part phone and part tablet. The best-known of these is the Samsung Galaxy Note II.

LG Optimus G Pro Overview

LG recently gave the world a sneek peek at this upcominf device, but did not reveal all the details on it. That changed today. 

It is going to run Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) on a 1.7 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, with 2 GB of RAM. There will be 32 GB of built-in storage and a microSD card slot.

The Optimus G Pro's 5.5-inch screen is going to have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, giving it a 400ppi pixel density.

Other features will in a 13-megapixel rear camera and 2.4-megapixel front camera. These will offer some unique features. Dual Recording is going to enable users to capture video with both the front and rear cameras simultaneously for a picture-in-picture effect. VR Panorama will allow a full 360 degree view.

The super-sized smartphone's battery will, not surprisingly, be quite large: 3,140mAh. This will be removable and support wireless charging.

It is expected to have 4G LTE, as well as the other usual wireless features, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

LG did not give specifics on exactly when and where the Optimus G Pro is going to be available, aside from the promise that it will be available outside of Korea in Q2.
