Google Working on "Innovative, Transformative" Smartphones

After Google acquired Motorola in summer of 2011, many expected the company to start pumping out amazing smartphones and tablets. This hasn't happened yet, but it might start soon.

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference, Google's Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President Patrick Pichette said that "We've inherited 18 months of pipeline that we actually have to drain right now, while we're actually building the next wave of innovation and product lines."

So everything Motorola has released since the acquisition was laid down before Google was directly involved. Pichette said these were not "innovative, transformative" -- implying that the models that Google and Motorola are crafting together will be.

The Google executive did not say when the pipeline of all-Motorola devices will be done, or when the Google-Motorola ones will begin.
