It's been a month since BlackBerry unveiled its new BlackBerry 10 smartphones and the company is ready to offer an update for the new operating system. This offers a number of improvements and new features based on user feedback.
Major Features
The update improves 3rd-party app performance, allowing developers to build apps that run faster and smoother. The update also improves Gmail calendars on BlackBerry 10, and includes new features in the BlackBerry 10 Hub for logging call logs and how conversations are handled, in addition to general user contact improvements.
The camera has also been optimized for low-light situations, which makes the camera work better without a flash, as seen with the time shift camera features. The update also offers a software upgrade to offer better browser video playback. Finally the update also provides over 60 battery saving improvements to help increase battery life, especially among heavy users.
How to Upgrade to BlackBerry 10
The Software is available over the air (OTA). Typically users will receive a notification about new updates, but the update can also be checked for manually if it has been made available by your service provider.
To manually install the update head to: Settings > Software Updates > Check for Updates -- then follow the on-screen steps to install.
The download is approximately 150MB in size. BlackBerry announced that the update is already available on a number of carriers, and BlackBerry is currently working with its other carriers to bring the update as soon as possible.
