Sprint Reportedly Set to Offer a Second-Generation BlackBerry 10 Smartphone this Year

The BlackBerry Z10 is going to be available from three of the Big Four U.S. carriers, but Sprint has opted out. Instead, it's going to offer a follow-up model.

Sprint is going to offer an all-touch BlackBerry 10 model that going to be released in the second half of this year, according to an unconfirmed report from A Things D. This will be a second-generation smartphone in this product line, not just a re-branded version.

No other specifics on this handset are available at this time. It's not clear if this will be a Sprint exclusive, or if other telecoms will be offering it too.

Going Out on a Limb

This is a slightly bold move by Sprint. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are all scheduled to introduce the BlackBerry Z10 before the end of this month, and Sprint might be missing the bus on this new platform.

Still, the telecom is hedging its bets -- it's going to introduce the BlackBerry Q10 in the next few months. This will run BlackBerry 10 but, unlike the Z10, will include a physical QWERTY keyboard.
