Apple Requiring New Apps To Display Correctly on iPhone 5

Months after the release of the iPhone 5, there's still a plethora of apps that don't take advantage of the device's taller display. While not a huge issue, the resized apps can cause users to mistype inputs. Apparently, Apple has had enough. According to a new stipulation Apple released to its developers, new app submissions and updates to the iTunes App store must implement Retina display compatibility, and iPhone apps must support the taller display.

The new policy will be taking effect May 1. "Starting May 1, new apps and app updates submitted to the App Store must be built for iOS devices with Retina display and iPhone apps must also support the 4-inch display on iPhone 5. Learn about preparing your apps by reviewing the iOS Human Interface Guidelines," according to the new addition to the App Store submission guidelines.

While not revolutionary, the new requirement should ensure that apps correctly fit the screen of the iPhone 5 and take full advantage of its Retina display.
