After meager sales of the BlackBerry Z10, Blackberry is looking to the Q10 to be its saving grace, and is expecting a lot from the new handset.
The BlackBerry Q10 handset with full QWERTY keyboard was released in the United Kingdom this past weekend and on Monday, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins told Bloomberg TV he expects sales of the device to reach "several tens of millions." That seems like some seriously high hopes after many analysts have made note of poor Z10 sales, with some noting returns of the device have actually outnumbered sales.
However, the Q10 launch in the U.K. seems to be faring much better thus far. "We have very, very good first signs already after the launch in the UK," said Heins. And Selfridges, a high-end U.K. department store, called the Q10 its "fastest-ever selling consumer electronics product." Should this trend keep up, it could be good news for BlackBerry, especially considering the higher-than-average price of the handset.
The Q10 is priced at nearly $900 at Selfridges and is on sale for $199 in Canada. The Q10 is expected to launch in the U.S. by the end of May and will likely be priced at $249.
