After unveiling the Xperia Z at CES back in January, Sony has finally begun selling the flagship smartphone in the United States, as the 5-inch handset is now available on the company's website.
With a price tag of $630, the unlocked version of the Xperia Z is available in black, white and purple. Potential customers should note that they will have to forgo the high-speed connectivity of LTE with this device, as Sony is only selling the HSPA+ model currently.
While the handset supports AT&T and T-Mobile's 3G networks, T-Mo customers looking for faster speeds may want to hold off on purchasing the Xperia Z from Sony, as a 4G LTE-equipped version was recently seen passing through the FCC. Those looking for a 4G fix from Sony now can pick up the Xperia ZL, which has been reduced from $760 to $630 following the stateside arrival of its premium cousin.
The dust and water resistant Xperia Z will begin shipping from Sony on May 7, though the new device is also available through other online retailers for less, with Amazon offering the smartphone for $600. Of course, the Xperia Z will be available at a more affordable price point once it launches from the country's wireless operators.
Powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the Xperia Z sports a full HD display with a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels and features a 13-megapixel camera. Sony touts the device as having a new battery mode that can increase standby time by as much as 4 times. The handset ships with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, though storage is expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.
