Slow Growth for Windows Phone Store, only at 145,000 Apps

Even with consistent support from Microsoft, the Windows Phone Store seems to be in a rut. As part of the official Nokia Lumia 928 announcement on Friday, Microsoft said that there were currently 145,000 apps in the Windows Phone Store. While that number may seem impressive on its own, the respective growth rate of the store is actually quite troubling.

A little over a year ago, Microsoft announced that the Windows Phone Store was at 100,000 applications, marking an impressive doubling of the total apps in just 6 months. However, since then the Windows Phone Store has only added 45,000 applications over the past 11 months. Based on the previous growth rate Microsoft was experiencing, the store should have passed the 140,000 mark back in January.

The slowing growth rate seems strange given the progress Windows Phone has seen with the world wide release of Windows Phone 8. Microsoft has yet to comment.
