Fingerprint scanning technology is shaping up to be the hot new feature, as Samsung has apparently joined Apple in its efforts to develop the technology for smartphones.
Rumors have been present for months suggesting the next iteration of the iPhone, expected in September, will feature fingerprint scanning, but now Apple may have some competition. According to SamMobile, Samsung has also been testing the functionality internally. The anonymous source that contacted SamMobile cited files taken from a leaked firmware build for the Galaxy S III that include images of fingerprints, seen here, and other items suggesting Samsung could be testing the technology.
As far as the application of the fingerprint scanning technology is concerned, the purported leaked images give no indication as to what the company might be looking to do with the technology. Samsung, meanwhile, has yet to confirm that the technology is in development.
