Rumor: Dell Axim X50
Here's a rare treat--rare because Dell usually keeps a very tight lid on their upcoming models. A source, who shall remain anonymous on the hope that Dell's black ops team won't find him and terminate him, has revealed information recieved by his company from Dell about the next generation Axim.
According to the report, the Axim X50 will have three different models in its line, with the highest using a 3.7 inch VGA screen. The X50 will have dual expansion slots, CompactFlash and SD, "among other things." The dimensions will be close to those of the X30, but it will not use the form-factor of either the X30 or the X5, opting for a new design that, in the words of the source, "...looks a bit like the rumored iPaq 2000 series..." No word yet on wireless or price point, but we'll keep pumping him. He did add that the documentation lists a release date in October.
Reported Tungsten T5 pics and specs
Rumors galore today! This, however, has some additional kick behind it, because we've got photos thanks to a user at 1src.com. According to the user who posted the information, the next Tungsten model will be the T5 rather than the T4. This isn't unprecedented, as the number four is considered inauspicious and unlucky in Asia. Palm Inc. bypassed the Palm IV, and other tech companies such as Canon and Psion have done similar end-arounds.
The T5 is reported to have a 520 MHz PXA270 XScale processor, 128 MB RAM, a 320 x 480 screen, Bluetooth, WiFi, an improved battery, a single SDIO slot, Palm OS Cobalt, and a new form-factor. The T5 does away with the slider mechanism that has been part of the T-series since its inception, and uses a new button arrangement and directional pad.

This photo is very poor quality, and as such it is difficult to determine its veracity, however as far as I can determine it is genuine. The screenshot displays the tabbed Date Book interface used by Cobalt. The lighting is self-consistent. The buttons and case are new and not stolen from another device. The image's metadata confirms the story of its origins--taken by a Sony Clie's internal camera at 5:50 PM today. I would say that this is the real deal, folks.

Tungsten T3 to get Cobalt upgrade?
The German-language Palm site Nexave.de has posted, as an addendum to a story about new Tungsten rumors, an intriguing claim about OS upgrades for some high-end Tungsten handhelds. Roughly translated, they repeat a report that a month after the release of the Tungsten T5, PalmOne will offer a Palm OS Cobalt upgrade for the Tungsten T3.
